Sample Prayers of the Faithful

  1. For our brother/sister X, who was given the promise of eternal life in Baptism, that he/she may be admitted to the company of the saints. May he/she continue to inspire us on our journey of life and be there at the end to welcome us, in our turn, into eternal life. Lord, hear us.
  2. We pray for X who leaves us in death, that God will bring her/him safely home and share with her/him the joys of the Kingdom of light, happiness and peace. Lord, hear us.
  3. For X whose faith sustained him/her during this earthly life, that he/she may be received by the saints with love and joy into the eternal dwelling place prepared for him/her. Lord, hear us.
  4. For X’s family and everyone who mourns the loss of X, that they may be given hope, peace, and consolation, treasuring the memories they have of him/her. May their tears be wiped away, and may their mourning be turned into joy. Lord, hear us.
  5. We remember the departed members of our family and community who are no longer with us. Today we especially remember……. May X be reunited with them in God’s Kingdom, where there is no more pain or suffering and may they share in the peace, joy and happiness of eternal life in heaven. Lord, hear us.
  6. We remember the staff at U.H.G. / The Galway Hospice for their compassion and care that they showed towards X during his/her illness. (We thank the palliative care team who helped us so much while X was at home). We also remember those who are terminally ill, we pray for them and their families and all medical professionals that the Lord may always give them the support to continue their compassionate care. Lord, hear us.
  7. For all gathered here to worship in faith and celebrate the life lived by X, that the bonds which unite us may be strengthened as we look forward in hope to being united one day in the Kingdom of Heaven. Lord, hear us.
  8. We remember and pray for those less fortunate than us. For those living in war and those who do not have access to basic health care, shelter or adequate food. We give thanks and gratitude for our blessings and pray that justice and peace may prevail throughout the world. Lord, hear us.
  9. We pray for peace in our world, community, homes and hearts. May X now enjoy the light of eternal peace. Lord, hear us.
  10. For all who mourn today. That they will receive strength of X to assist them in their sadness and grief. Lord, hear us.
  11. For all who work with the sick and the aged and for all who attended to the needs of X, that they may be granted the grace, patience, understanding needed to continue their compassionate care. Lord, hear us.
  12. X showed so much love for others during his/her life. May he/she now experience the perfection and fulfilment of that love now in heaven. Lord, hear us.
  13. For our deceased relatives and friends; that God may bring them into the light of his presence, and give them a share in his glory. Lord, hear us. 
  14. The gift of life which we all share is very precious. Lord make us more aware of the gifts and talents that you have given us, particularly those that we so often take for granted. May we use them to make the world a better place. Lord, hear us. 
  15. For all of us gathered here; that we may remember at all times, but especially at times of trouble and anxiety, that we are loved by god and that he will take care of us. Lord, hear us.
